January 2012 First Sighting

Not much more to say then the sight of a flock of Robins ascending and descending onto my drive made me smile! Nothing says Spring is near as much as the return of the robins!
I know it's January, there are weeks, possibly months of rain and snow ahead; but simply seeing them busy at their work from dawn to dusk cheers me heart and gets my juices churning!
For what? For a nice fat catalog from Territorials Seeds! Oregon's premiere provider of organic local seed for the home gardener! They actually produce most of the seed they offer, which is amazing!
Here are some of my selections for the coming season;
Canoe Shelling Peas, Beira Tronchunda Cabbage aka Portuguese Kale and Fava Beans along with the salad fixin's of Spinach, Heirloom Lettuces, Onions, Carrots, Beets. Including a mix of greens that will be harvested as mini salad mix.

Yep, nothing is more entertaining during those finals weeks and months of winter then planning and dreaming what will happen in the garden this year! Always hopful that the failures of the past will be overcome, the new veggies will prosper inspite of it all and my garden plot will shortly become a riot of savory delights!

The plots are primed and ready!

 Including the first 8x20' row that is already planted!

What do you think is going on under that row cover? It's been a month or more since I visited my plot at the Senn's Dairy Community Garden, so it could be anything.
Of course I am thinking GREEN!
Happy Gardening in 2012!
